From Procrastination to Completion

The Books Read

Here is a list of the books I read to date (actually it is listened to–but I am reading others also).

For books below: Time in total hours and minutes = 164 hours and 38 minutes. Of those, 123.25 hours were spent physically working on the 11-point star project.

The Associate — Author: John Grisham — # of Listening Time: 11 hours — Comments: I did not like the ending.

Bridge of Sighs—  Author: Richard Russo — # of Discs: 21 –Listening Time: 26 hours 59 minutes — Comments: I thought it was a good story about a small town and various families from that town. It had a number of sad parts that were not balanced with light moments. I thought it was interesting that I read consecutive books with a focus on artists. I listened to this book once before.

Cat’s Eyewitness —  Author: Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown — # of Discs: 8 —  listening time 9 hours 30 minutes (can’t use this one toward project) — Comments: I finished this book this morning. I liked the beginning and the mood it set. I have read others by this author and they are cute, light books. I like the personalities more than the story

Circle of Quilters— Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2006 — # of Discs: 9 —            Listening Time: 10 hours 15 minutes — Comments:

Code to Zero— Author: Ken — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 9 hours 45 minutes — Comments: I  listened to this book before but did not “remember” the story. I enjoyed this book because of the time setting. I grew up during the early years of rocketry and ultimate trips into space. It was an interesting trip down memory lane. I also lived in Huntsville, AL, where my husband worked on the space flight program.

The Given Day — Author: Dennis Lehane — # of Discs: 20 — Listening Time: 24 hours — Comments: It is a good book. I wanted the ending to be different. I wanted the firefighters to strike along side the police officers and I wanted Luther Laurence to play baseball with Babe Ruth. It was interesting history in Boston and many of the challenges of that era were things my parents experienced, which made the setting interesting.

Lost City— Author: Clive Cussler — # of Discs: 11 —  Listening Time: 13 hours 15 minutes– Comments:  I like books where I learn something new and that contain mystery, intrigue and some romance while being entertaining. This book is a science fiction adventure where the reader cannot trust the technology that the narrator is presenting. The quest for mortality, as described in this book, remains elusive. I got “tired” of the book.

The New Year’s Quilt  —  Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2006 — # of Discs: 5 —  Listening Time: 6 hours 15 minutes — Comments: I finished this book this afternoon. Disc 5 was the only remaining disk and only one I can count toward time spent on the 11-point star project, which is about 1 hour. The book was OK, but as mentioned earlier, I had listened to it sometime in the past. This author is light reading.

Silks — Author: Dick Francis & Felix Francis — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 10 hours 30 minutes — Comments: I finished it on 10/11. I enjoy books by Dick Francis but had listened to this one in the past. It seemed to drag in parts.

Sizzling Sixteen — Author: Janet Evanovich — # of discs: 7 — Listenint Time: 7 hours — Comments: I finished this book today and, as always, her books are raucous and slap stick. In this particular book, the story line was to rescue Vinnie from his gambling and embezzling. I prefer books that talk about fascinating things and “teach” me something interesting. This is the last book in my supply so probably will go to library tomorrow

Strategic Moves  —  Author: Stuart Woods – # of Discs: 7 — Listening hours: 8 hours Comments: This is a book recommended by H. I finished it this evening. I have read other Stuart Woods books and they are entertaining stories about rich attorneys and criminals that get away with breaking the law. I listened to part of this book in the car and the rest working on the doodle quilt project so it can not be added to the total hours on the 11-point star project. finished 10/12

The Swan Thieves — Author: Elizabeth Kostova — # of Discs: 17 — Listening Time: 17 hours 54 minutes — Comments: I very much liked the book and recommended to my quilt group members.

The Winding Ways Quilt — Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2008 — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 10 hours 15 minutes — Comments. It was best of the three I listened to during working time. The characters seemed better defined.
