Day 90 Thursday October 27, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on October 28, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 90 Thursday October 27, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  None today—based on what I have scheduled for the next few days, it will be next week before I can again settle in to my 11-point star project. I look forward to that time. Bet on it. Monday should be a good day to work on my quilt project.

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise:

Tools: no quilting tools

Observations: I did get done what I needed to do today but could have used some more spare time. It has now been 90 days since I decided to pick up where I left off on the 11-point star quilting project. For a while, I made good progress. Then fall activities began to take time away and continue to do so. I really need once again to set time aside for the project.

Prayer: Thank you for another birthday for H. I ask that you bless him throughout the year. Give him peace, happiness, success, love, pleasure and beauty in his life. Tomorrow is the Grand Sousa concert. I would like you to guide my every action and make the music I play pleasing to all who hear me play and especially to you. Make my fingers fly to each correct note and my eyes see quickly and deftly, my ears aware of everything I need to listen for and to and make my tone beautiful.

Diversions: This morning first thing I attended a SBA class in Marketing. I brushed up on how to manage the sale of my books. It was H’s birthday and we met for lunch. Then I had him pick out his birthday gift, which he was pleased to have. I stopped at the music store and purchased a stand for my instrument. In the late afternoon, I began to prepare food for Friday evening, when I host a post concert party for band members and their guest. Then I practiced my Meridian music.

Day 27 Thursday August 25, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 28, 2011

Date: Thursday August 25, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  Today I continued to sew on the narrow-point star sections. I have parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in place. Piece 7 is pinned to each unit and ready to sew. Pieces 8, 9 and 10 will complete those sections.

Book:  Title: #5 Bridge of Sighs

Comments: disc 10 – track nine on disc 14

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for 20 minutes.

Tools:  Clover mini iron

Observations: After I sewed, I pressed the pieces along the seam line. I discovered that I could not use a traditional iron because it burned the water-soluble paper even when I turned the heat down. The mini iron worked quite well as long as I kept it off the paper. Although, I do wish it was a bit hotter.

Prayer: I pray my day is productive. Guide my actions and interactions. Bless my children and give them and their families an excellent day, a day they recognize as special.

Diversions: Gather music plan church music and practice in morning. Go to church music practice in evening

Day 28 Friday August 26, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 28, 2011

Date: Friday August 26, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  The narrow star points have all their pieces sewn on. The places where the seams meet need checking for accuracy, threads on the last two pieces need tying off and they need to be ironed flat and glued to the pattern paper. Those things are for tomorrow.

Book:  Title: #5 Bridge of Sighs

Comments: track nine on disc 14 – disc 19

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for 35 minutes.

Tools:  no new ones

Observations: I find that five minutes on the treadmill can be quite “long” so today I put a quilting book on a stand to read and the time went much faster. Written in the 1930’s (need to check this), the book, Romance of the Patchwork Quilt, is one I purchased at an estate sale.

Prayer: In five days, university classes will begin. I pray that you, Lord, help professors teach to their full potential. I pray too that students great the new year with enthusiasm which permeates through to the end of the school year.

Diversions: Worked on hyperlinks to definitions and products in this blog. I went out to dinner. Overall,

Day 29 Saturday August 27, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 28, 2011

 Date: Saturday August 27, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  I finished sewing the eleven narrow star points. I drew a paper-piecing pattern for large diamond parts. I finally signed up for a blog on wordpress.com and began learning how to set blog up.

Book:  Title: #5 Bridge of Sighs

Comments: disc 20 – disc 21

Now that I am finished with this book, I thought it was a good story about a small town and various families from that town. It had a number of sad parts that were not balanced with light moments. I thought it was interesting that I read consecutive books with a focus on artists.

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for 10 minutes.

Tools:  no new ones

Observations:

Prayer: You have revealed to me a beautiful, sunny day. May I always appreciate the beauty of nature. Others, today, are suffering from the threats that hurricane weather brings. Be with those people and assuage their distress.

Diversions: Practice church music in morning. Go to late afternoon departmental cookout.
