Day 128 Sunday December 4, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on December 4, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 128 Sunday December 4, 2011

Project Accomplishments: none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 40 days since I worked on that project. Now Christmas is coming. It is really impressive to keep track of this and it is an eye opener. Just think what I could have accomplished if I had done something for the last 40 days!

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: up and down stairs numerous times

Tools: embroidery machine, car, vacuum, dusting equipment

Observations: It always looks so festive to bring out the Christmas decorations. I hung a large red, green and off white quilt yesterday and it looks so nice. H particularly likes the pine trees and deer on the mantle.

Prayer: Thanks for calming my mind today and helping me get my irritation about yesterday under control. Help me to be a better person than the person who irritated me.

Diversions: Before church, I did a little Christmas decorating. After church and a nice breakfast, I went to my studio and machine embroidered lace snowflakes. That took quite a while and they look nice. While the embroidery machine was running, I began to look at fabrics for a potential blue and white quilt. I have some Sachiko snowflake embroidery designs and some blue work birds. I began looking at Irish Chain patterns for a potential layout. I had some painting touch-up work to do in the foyer and so did that. I continued various decorating arrangements in various rooms.

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 88  Tuesday October 25, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  I glued the final large diamond paper pattern pieces together

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author: Jeffrey Archer — # of Discs:  13– Listening hours: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations: Today was what I call a slough-off day where I time seemed wasted.

Prayer: Lord, I have a full week, help me to make the most of my time to have a meaningful, pleasant week.

Diversions: I rose earlier than I wanted and saw H off on a business trip. I did some stock research and email. I had a 10:00 appointment (left at 9:30). I stopped at Sears and got back about 11:30. I took care of some bills and balanced a statement. I practiced my music for a while. A plumber came to snake out a toilet and the roofer came to replace a couple of shingles lost in high winds. Waiting for these people was part of why I felt some of my time was wasted. I have band practice tonight.

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 77  Friday October 14, 2011

Project Accomplishments: Yeah! I actually touched my 11-point star project today. I put together, with glue,  two of the large diamond tiled patterns. I almost ruined one but was able to correct my mistake.

Books:  Title: #14 —  —  Author:  — # of Discs:  — Listening hours:

Book Comments: no new one today

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations: I felt somewhat better today but am not over my cold. If you were betting when I would get back to my 11-point star project, and you chose today, congratulations, you win

Prayer: Gracious Lord, thank you for this day. It was good to get the tomatoes done. Thank you for the food you provide through the work of our farmers. Bless the farmers as they reach the end of the Michigan growing season. Grant that people who have the means, help provide food for those in need. Bless my family. Give each a pleasant day tomorrow, one they recognize as special.

Diversions: The doodle quilt sample block is done. I added some surface circle and amoeba appliqué shapes. I peeled and cooked tomatoes made and canned juice. I set some bread dough out to rise. A nap in front of the TV was also part of my day

Day 70 Friday October 7, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on October 8, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 70 Friday October 7, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I did not work on this project but on a couple of others that have a real deadline.

Books:  Title: #10 — Cat’s Eyewitness —  Author: Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown — # of Discs: 8 —  listening time 9 hours 30 minutes (can’t use this one toward project)

Book Comments: I finished this book this morning. I liked the beginning and the mood it set. I have read others by this author and they are cute, light books. I like the personalities more than the story

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations: I feel I should have used my day more productively but things sometimes take longer than planned. If you bet that I would continue today the 11-point project from yesterday, sorry, it did not work out that way.

Prayer: Lord, when things are going well, it is easy not to pray and hard to develop meaningful prayer. Today I pray that the efforts I put into advertising will bring rewarding book orders. You know my web order address but to those who read this prayer, it is fcp123.com. Thank you for always being a thought away.

Diversions: I woke up really early and put together the pattern I printed for the doodle quilt block I designed. Then I worked most of the day on color wheel permutations. I now have a nice notebook for color reference. I had an appointment in Mason and lunch out. I worked on some advertising material. In the evening, I took a nap and I watched an old movie.

Day 57 Saturday September 24, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 24, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 57 Saturday September 24, 2011

Project Accomplishments: The two large diamond paper-piecing units are finished. I have to take the center of one apart and adjust the fabric pattern alignment.

Books:  Title: #9 — The Winding Ways Quilt–  Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2008 — # of Discs: 9 —  Listening Time: 10 hours 15 minutes

Book Comments:  continued with disc 5 track 18 and got through disk 7

Exercise: walked 15 minutes on treadmill

Tools: no new ones

Observations: I enjoy making doll quilts.

Prayer: This public, daily prayer is foreign to me Lord and sometimes I wonder for what to ask. You have given me so very much already. Now, as I age, it seems that you begin to take away. Nothing we receive on earth will last when we pass I only ask to make me a kinder, gentler, more loving person. Thanks for the nice day to work outside.

Diversions: I Finished a doll quilt top from the Crazy for Lemoyne book pattern. Then I put together and finished another using an embroidery machine appliqué sample. They took part of the day. I also put together some dinner roll dough for Sunday.

Day 56 Friday September 23, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 24, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 56 Friday September 23, 2011

Project Accomplishments: Today I began (about 10:00 in the morning) adding fabric diamonds to the paper-piecing patterns. I paid attention to directional fabric patterns as I progressed and got all the diamonds sewn to two of the large patterns. I found I had to take out some stitching and then properly align a few pieces. When I originally cut the fabric diamonds, I cut outside the marking line. I found that I needed to trim each piece for it to fit within the pattern outline. I don’t like the extra step, but I knew I might have to do trimming. The original cut allowed for thread/seam fold over thickness. Using the paper-piecing pattern changes that dynamic. I have about four more seams to stitch but they are looking quite accurate. Before I print more patterns, I will add some alignment lines, making it easier to place fabric.

Books:  Title: #9 — The Winding Ways Quilt–  Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2008 — # of Discs: 9 —  Listening Time: 10 hours 15 minutes

Book Comments:  I continued with disc 1, track 18 and ended with disc 5 track 18

Exercise: walked on treadmill for 20 minutes

Tools: I used a pressing stick after sewing each diamond seam. It replaces an iron and is similar to finger-pressing but it gives you a seam that has a sharper press. You can see one, which is slightly different from mine at http://www.shopfonsandporter.com/product/Pressing-Stick-Right/

Observations:

Prayer: If you could see your way to making this a nice weekend instead of a rainy one, I would appreciate it. If you can, Do it for H.

Diversions: My day was primarily to work on the 11-point star project. I did take two short naps because I had what I call my 4:00 morning, when I awoke and decided to do some reading.

Day 55 Thursday September 22, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 22, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 55 Thursday September 22, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I folded the two paper-piecing patterns along the fold lines and then began to add diamonds to the paper. Folding the paper before adding diamonds is easier than waiting until fabric in added. Waiting to fold after the fabric is applied does not give as accurate folds or stitching. I only glued and sewed a few on because of diversions below.

Books:  Title: #9 — The Winding Ways Quilt–  Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2008 — # of Discs: 9 —  Listening Time: 10 hours 15 minutes

Book Comments: I hope this book is better than the last one I read. I listened to part of disc 1 today – up to track 18

Exercise: need to do some

Tools: no new ones

Observations: It was great to have my son visit and to show him what I am up to in my studio.

Prayer: I ask for safe travels for my sons as they “to and fro” in the next few days. I thank you for their visits and for all they do for me.

Diversions: I had a pleasant diversion today in the form of a visit from my youngest son. Another doll quilt, made from my Crazy for Lemoyne quilt book pattern, took up part of my day. I got the star section together and now need to add corner and triangular blocks then a header and footer to the star. I went to lunch with my son and dropped him on MSU campus for his meeting. Visiting and catching up took an enjoyable part of the day.

Day 49 Friday September 16, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 16, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 49 Friday September 16, 2011

Project Accomplishments: The Paper Solvy shipment came late today. I can print my patterns now.

Books:  Title: #8 — The New Year’s Quilt  —  Author: Jennifer Chaverini 2006 — # of Discs: 5 —  Listening Time: 6 hours 15 minutes

Book Comments: I prefer to listen to these books on CD while I am working on the project. By doing so, I can get a good estimate of the number of hours used in the process.

I really needed some stimulation and began and got through 4 of the 5 discs. I can not count this toward the 11-point star project.

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations:  The delay in the Paper Solvy delivery gave me time to make two doll quilts and start a jean jacket.

Prayer: I’ve gotten along pretty good today without praying but, Lord, I just think it could be so much better if I said a few words to thank you for your presence, even when I don’t acknowledge you and thank you for all goodness and blessings You bestow on me. I do that now. Thank You.

Diversions: Today I finished the LAP doll quilt. It is a lone star design in pastel colors of yellow, aqua, white, lilac and a coordinating print. I added lots of machine quilting motifs. I made a doll pillow to match it. Then I took an orphan block that measures 18” square and added a header to the top and bottom and made a second doll quilt. This orphan was from a machine quilting class I took years ago. It is in bright oranges and greens on a muslin ground. It turned out pretty nice.

Day 37 Sunday September 4, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 5, 2011

Date: Day 37 Sunday September 4, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I worked on the center portion of this project using my Templar templates, starch and iron and folded the seam lines in on two parts of the center. I also marked the seam lines where I will hand piece parts of the center. I added more blog pictures of the fabrics being used in the large diamond area.

Books: Title: #6 Code to Zero — Author: Ken Follett — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 9 hours 45 minutes — Comments:

Book Comments: I listened to disc 1 and up to track 9 on second disc.

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for  5  minutes

Tools: no new ones

Observations: Once again I struggled with getting photos into this blog. Finally, I persevered and got it finished.

Prayer: The words to music sometimes augment prayer and today these words seemed right today, “May love be the sun shining in our darkness. May love fill the lives of our children. May love be our strength to live a life of justice. May love be our call to live in thy kingdom.

Diversions: I went to church and participated in church music. It was pleasant to have a light breakfast at Panera. Then I did some grocery shopping and came home. I made a fresh apple pie and grilled fresh lake trout—Yum. I worked on the Lansing Area Patchers doll quilt and this blog.

Day 36 Saturday September 3, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on September 3, 2011

Date: Day 36 Saturday September 3, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I shopped on-line for Paper Solvy. I found some at JoAnn on-line at a really good price—but they were out of stock and I probably would not get them again at the sale price. I found them at the order store at yahoo.net and ordered it. Then I looked all over for Sew Line glue stick refills and each place I found them, they were out of stock except a place that was going to charge me over $20 for shipping on an $11 order. I emptied my shopping cart and looked to see where they would come from—Australia! Anyway, Hancock’s of Paducah will e-mail me when they come in. I still have some on hand. I made a large diamond section (containing 32 diamonds) and was quite pleased with the accuracy and point matching using the paper piecing.

Books: Title: #6 Code to Zero — Author: Ken Follett — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 9 hours 45 minutes — Comments:

Book Comments: I should be able to listen to discs tomorrow.

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for  0  minutes — I vacuumed bedroom, bath, closet and halls

Tools: no new ones

Observations:

Prayer: Yesterday, Lord, was interesting. I struggled with getting photos into the blog. You know how many times I repeated the process. After I was done with the photos, I did my daily blog and realized I had not prayed. Things went much better in the afternoon. Thanks for a good afternoon. Today, I pray for people who are winding up the summer season by enjoying a holiday weekend gathering. I hope all celebrate with the knowledge of how a good summer of visiting people and nature came from you. I pray that our nation too. That our political leaders will work together to the benefit of our nation instead of for themselves.

Diversions: I shopped on-line partly successfully and partly not. I did my e-mail and a special blog post. Then I updated some accounts (more to do) and eventually practiced my church music. I cut the pieces for a doll quilt using scraps and a Quilt Smart pattern.
