Posted by Beatrice on October 25, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 88  Tuesday October 25, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  I glued the final large diamond paper pattern pieces together

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author: Jeffrey Archer — # of Discs:  13– Listening hours: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations: Today was what I call a slough-off day where I time seemed wasted.

Prayer: Lord, I have a full week, help me to make the most of my time to have a meaningful, pleasant week.

Diversions: I rose earlier than I wanted and saw H off on a business trip. I did some stock research and email. I had a 10:00 appointment (left at 9:30). I stopped at Sears and got back about 11:30. I took care of some bills and balanced a statement. I practiced my music for a while. A plumber came to snake out a toilet and the roofer came to replace a couple of shingles lost in high winds. Waiting for these people was part of why I felt some of my time was wasted. I have band practice tonight.

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 81  Tuesday October 18, 2011

Project Accomplishments: Well, I did look at 11-point star diamond paper piecing patterns today and moved some pattern pieces around, but really did not make project on progress.

Books:  Title: #14 —  —  Author:  — # of Discs:  — Listening hours:

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: I ironed clothes – a lot of them

Tools:

Observations: I think you really deserve some photos, which I will try to add ASAP. I hope to add the doll quilts I made and the doodle quilt sample, both of which kept me from the 11-point project. Are you going to bet when I will get back to the project? Lord, I hope it is soon. However, we have activities this weekend and next weekend for which I have to prepare.

Prayer: We have an opportunity to enjoy a couple of couples this weekend. Please heal us so we recover from our colds and can entertain and be entertained with good company and cheer. Heal other people who are ill so they too can also enjoy others.

Diversions: Today I completed the process of cleaning off my desk so I could see the surface and catch up. I balanced quarterly statements, updated accounts, and paid one bill. I did two loads of washing and ironed everything but two sets of sheets. I had a morning meeting. In the late afternoon I printed signs for the band. This evening I had band practice.

Date: Day 77  Friday October 14, 2011

Project Accomplishments: Yeah! I actually touched my 11-point star project today. I put together, with glue,  two of the large diamond tiled patterns. I almost ruined one but was able to correct my mistake.

Books:  Title: #14 —  —  Author:  — # of Discs:  — Listening hours:

Book Comments: no new one today

Exercise:

Tools:

Observations: I felt somewhat better today but am not over my cold. If you were betting when I would get back to my 11-point star project, and you chose today, congratulations, you win

Prayer: Gracious Lord, thank you for this day. It was good to get the tomatoes done. Thank you for the food you provide through the work of our farmers. Bless the farmers as they reach the end of the Michigan growing season. Grant that people who have the means, help provide food for those in need. Bless my family. Give each a pleasant day tomorrow, one they recognize as special.

Diversions: The doodle quilt sample block is done. I added some surface circle and amoeba appliqué shapes. I peeled and cooked tomatoes made and canned juice. I set some bread dough out to rise. A nap in front of the TV was also part of my day

Date: Day 69 Thursday October 6, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  It has been eleven days since I was able to get back to this project. Hum…the number is interesting since this is an 11-point star project.

To the Large Diamond pattern, I added alignment lines and printed the remaining patterns

Day 33: Wednesday August 31, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 31, 2011

Date: Wednesday August 31, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I tested the paper-pattern that I printed yesterday. I folded it along the fold lines and sewed along seam lines through the paper. What I expected yesterday is true. I need to jog the rows to get them to line up after sewing. Now I have to figure out how much.

Books:

Title: #6 Code to Zero — Author: Ken Follett — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 9 hours 45 minutes — Comments: No listening today.

Comments:

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for    5      minutes.

Tools: no new ones

Observations: Errands away from my studio can take a large chunk of time.

Prayer: Lord, you know how many things I already have on my list today. You knew even before I began writing. I thank you for your guidance and ask blessings on all those with which I come in contact today.

Diversions: Practice church music. Talked to a local wood-carver, James Madsen, and ordered a carving for husband’s birthday. I placed office supply order with HP. I also placed walking shoe order with ShoeMall.com. Then I chased a chipmunk out of the bird feeder. I went to the store to purchase some acid free tissue to wrap the quilt I will mail to Houston tomorrow. Hallmark was the recipient of my large greeting card purchase. JoAnn is where I made a return and purchase. I talked to my oldest sister and found her to be in high spirits.

Day 32 Tuesday August 30, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 29, 2011

Date: Tuesday August 30, 2011

Project Accomplishments: I looked at pattern I drew on 27th. I might have to jog some sewing lines to have it sew correctly. I compared it to a Quiltsmart lone star pattern printed on interfacing to use as a reference. I have drawn this type of pattern before but not for a long time. I printed the pattern to fit a page. Tomorrow I will test it by folding the paper and sewing.

Books:

Title: #6 Code to Zero — Author: Ken Follett — # of Discs: 9 — Listening Time: 9 hours 45 minutes — Comments:

Comments: I did not listen to any discs today

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for       0    minutes.

Tools: Quiltsmart

Observations: It was a busy day today.

Prayer: It isn’t early morning Lord but it still is morning and although it is a gray morning, I greet the day with anticipation that all thing, blessed by You, are possible. Please give me the talents and fortitude I need to make what I accomplish suitable to you. I ask that I always be a blessing to others.

Diversions: This morning I practiced my church music. Tonight I had Meridian Community Band practice and beginning of season gathering. I made cookies to take to this event. I finished ironing. I have done some blogging and will blog at day’s end (about accomplishments). I sewed a sleeve and tag onto the pin quilt. I also added the Pin Peddler pin locks so the pins will not come off. I will mail it toHoustontomorrow.

Day 21 Friday August 19, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on August 28, 2011

Date: Friday August 19, 2011

Project Accomplishments:  I began to cut pieces for fine star points. I cut fuchsia, black and gray diamonds. To be sure paper pattern works, I needed to test the paper-piecing pattern which I drew and printed yesterday. In the afternoon, I did try testing pattern with some of the fabric pieces I cut. I discovered the pattern I designed yesterday would not work!

I looked through the patterns I printed back when I tested the fine point assembly quilt some time ago; I had a paper-piecing pattern designed back then. After looking at it, I decided it would work. I began again making another sample star fine point section. By that time, I got to this it was suppertime.

I wasted some time and fabric today. I needed 22 dark gray pieces and I cut 44. I needed 44 fuchsia pieces and guess I projected that number on to the gray parts. Bummer!

Book: finished Lost City discs: 9 through 11

Book Comments: I like books where I learn something new and that contain mystery, intrigue and some romance while being entertaining. This book is a science fiction adventure where the reader cannot trust the technology that the narrator is presenting. The quest for mortality, as described in this book, remains elusive. I got “tired” of the book.

Exercise:  Walked on treadmill for 15 minutes

Tools:  no new ones

Observations:  I have observed this before and it bears putting it into words. When you start a project and then put it away for a long period, you have to brush up on where you were and re-learn what you learned back then. It is much more efficient to stick with a project and figure out the “how to” as you go through the project. In other words, persevere.

Diversions: Got a birthday gift (online) for grandson Collin who will be eight on Monday
