Date: Day 131 Wednesday December 7, 2011

Project Accomplishments: none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 43 days since I worked on that project. Now Christmas is coming. It is really impressive to keep track of this and it is an eye opener. Just think what I could have accomplished if I had done something for the last 43 days!

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise:

Tools: computer, printer, car

Observations: Time can fly by like the blink of an eye when I am engaged in working on projects and that is the case with working with the slides to photos.

Prayer: There should not be a day without prayer. Yet, I find it somewhat difficult to compose my thanks and my requests to you. I ask that what I do be pleasing to you. Forgive me for the times I fall short of your expectations. Guide me in my activities and make me a blessing to others.

Diversions: The day began by practicing my Meridian Music. My weekly quilt meeting was next and that went until noon. I made a return to Target and purchased some office supplies at Staples. I returned home to print two Color Wheel notebooks, which I sold today. While those were printing, I worked on slides to photos for Christmas gifts. In the evening, I had a joint concert withLansing Catholic High School. After that, I worked on one slide, trying to improve the background. I will look at again tomorrow to see if I like the changes.

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: up and down stairs numerous times

Tools: embroidery machine, car, vacuum, dusting equipment

Observations: It always looks so festive to bring out the Christmas decorations. I hung a large red, green and off white quilt yesterday and it looks so nice. H particularly likes the pine trees and deer on the mantle.

Prayer: Thanks for calming my mind today and helping me get my irritation about yesterday under control. Help me to be a better person than the person who irritated me.

Diversions: Before church, I did a little Christmas decorating. After church and a nice breakfast, I went to my studio and machine embroidered lace snowflakes. That took quite a while and they look nice. While the embroidery machine was running, I began to look at fabrics for a potential blue and white quilt. I have some Sachiko snowflake embroidery designs and some blue work birds. I began looking at Irish Chain patterns for a potential layout. I had some painting touch-up work to do in the foyer and so did that. I continued various decorating arrangements in various rooms.

Date: Day 127 Saturday December 3, 2011

Project Accomplishments: none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 39 days since I worked on that project. Now Christmas is coming. It is really impressive to keep track of this and it is an eye opener. Just think what I could have accomplished if I had done something for the last 39 days!

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: up and down stairs a number of times

Tools: sewing machine, rotary cutter, car, money

Observations: Some people can be so incredibly insensitive; I just want to tell them off. But, alas, I just don’t have it in me.

Prayer: Make me tolerant of other’s shortcomings, which have influenced my day. Brighten my mood.

Diversions: I began the day by putting away fall decorations, doing some dusting and then bring out some Christmas decorations. There was a dress rehearsal for the church choir concert coming up on Dec 9. in the morning. At home again, I wanted to find a burgundy tablecloth and solar-powered candles for the windows. I spent a fair amount of time on-line shopping and finding only one solar candle and it was too expensive. I would like to get at least eight. I went to JoAnn’s, got burgundy fabric for a tablecloth and then shopped at Home Goods but found nothing of interest. I hemmed each end of the fabric I purchased, put it on the table and it looks great. I watched some MSU football and then hung a Christmas quilt.

Exercise: walked the shopping area today

Prayer: There were moments of this Monday that were frustrating but in the end, I accomplished what I set out to do. I pray that I not to get frustrated when encountering problems.

Diversions: The laundry was part of what I did today but most of the day was used to make a pillow from the cornucopia embroidery I did over the last two days. Project Accomplishments: none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 18 days since I worked on that project

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: raked leaves

Tools: rake, computer equipment

Observations: H reinstalled the center intermediate post and we are satisfied with the center (and first constructed) bridge rail system. There are eight sections with spindle angles that are more difficult.

Prayer:  Thank you for what I accomplished Saturday. Bless my efforts and make them worthwhile

Diversions: The day began by painting the unpainted side of the bridge intermediate posts. The color wheel notebook became my next focus until I went to the lot checked out the bridge rail section and raked leaves. After I came home, I went to theE. Lansing film festival show called “Stitched” with a friend. It is about three top quilters,Paducah and Houston. When I came home, I typed a paper for a friend, emailed it to her asking questions, changed things by phone, emailed it back to her and completed that task. I continued working on the color wheel notebook and printed another copy. It needs some adjustment of printed colors. I watched the news and went to bed.

Day1 03 Wednesday November 9, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on November 10, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 103 Wednesday November 9, 2011

Project Accomplishments: : none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 15 days since I worked on that project

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: shopped!

Tools: no nw ones

Observations: The day was full of activities but I also managed to work on a section of the bridge. The rail section needs scrutiny and I am sure some changes will be made after testing it on site.

Prayer: Just when I think I have figured things out, there is a next step to take. I pray you guide me to a solution.

Diversions: Basically, this is a list of things that took up my time today. I began by meeting the quilt group for a shop hop and lunch. I managed to keep my spending to a minimum. Because of the adventure, I sold one of my books in one of the stores. This was unexpected and enjoyable. I also worked in some errand stops in between shops. I returned bottles/cans, got some money at the bank and went to Lowe’s. Lunch was at one of the quilter’s homes and an enjoyable event with good food. I had a doctor appointment for a check up. Then I went to Sears and back home. In the evening H and I worked on bridge sections with rails and spindles. My method of drilling holes worked very well on curved rails. We will take the first sample and “audition” it with the bridge beams. I expect some adjustments in the method but the first rail section is together for testing.

Day 102 Tuesday November 8, 2011

Posted by Beatrice on November 9, 2011

Reading the tabs titled “An Introduction”, “Background” and “About” will help you know what this blog is about. You can track my 11-point star quilting project progress from day one to today.

Date: Day 102 Tuesday November 8, 2011

Project Accomplishments: none on 11-point star quilt project today — it has been 14 days since I worked on that project

Books:  Title: #14 — A Prisoner of Birth —  Author:  Jeffrey Archer– # of Discs: 13 — Listening time: 16 hours 30 minutes

Book Comments: no listening today

Exercise: I cleaned workshop bench tops, put away, vacuumed, and in general got the wood shop ready for a big job.

Tools: vacuum, saws, hammer, nails, tape measures center punch, centering device, squares, levels, pencils, drills, computer

Observations: I have to weigh the importance of working on bridge building or building my 11-point star quilt project. The bridge started in 2003, when the plans were drawn and finalized then incurred various delays including finding a source to manufacture the beams, building the foundation, bending rails to the bridge beam rise and building the rails with spindles. Each step was delayed for one reason or another including time commitment problems and weather delays too. The 11-point star project began in 2008 after I finished my book. I figure if I can keep H engaged in bridge building that is the best use of time because a lot more money has gone into the bridge than into the quilt. I would like to get them both done and as long as I can keep H going, I will help him with that.

Prayer: Thank you for the solution to drilling parallel holes in a curved surface. It makes the project doable. It is so much simpler than all the other solutions that have run through my mind. I pray that all goes well as H and I make the twelve sections.

Diversions: Today I straightened the workshop and cleared bench surfaces. This is similar to what I do when I start a quilting project (or end one). It seems to foster productivity. Last night, before I went to bed, I had what I call an epiphany. I figured out how to use a drill press and make vertical holes in curved rails. H and I both struggled with how to make them accurately. Today I made the forms to aid in the drilling. I also did some laundry, prepared music for practice tonight and prepared items for tasks tomorrow. After band practice, I worked on the color wheel notebook project. I also did a load of laundry today.
